About The Test

COVID-19 IgG/IgM Rapid Test uses whole blood, serum or plasma for rapid, qualitative, and differential detection of IgG and IgM antibodies in 15 minutes or less. The test is FDA-authorized via the FDA’s Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) policy and is CE marked, which means it’s manufactured to European Economic Area standards for health, safety, and environmental protection. While no special equipment is needed, this test must be administered and analyzed by professionals only. We are a CLIA-certified company.

Who Should Get Tested?

COVID-19 antibody testing can be used to inform concerned people about how to consider past and future social interactions and suggest whether others in their work or social groups may have been infected. This knowledge may help people alter their lifestyles to remain healthy.

The most common reasons for COVID-19 antibody testing include:

  • Known exposure to a person proven to have COVID-19
  • Known prior active COVID-19 infection
  • Prior fever, cough, or respiratory illness in the past 3 months where testing for COVID-19 was not done
  • Exposure to others with fever, cough, or respiratory illness in the past 3 months where testing for COVID-19 was not done
  • Public social interactions in the past 3 months where social distancing was violated or not possible or where masks were not being worn

The following situations generally do not warrant antibody testing:

  • Active fever, cough, or respiratory illness (may require PCR testing instead)
  • Retesting unless significant new symptoms or exposure have occurred
  • Infants

Questions About Coronavirus

It’s no secret that the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which causes the disease known as COVID-19 has impacted everyone’s life, and many questions still loom for Utahns about the pandemic. The two questions we hear the most are:

  • How likely am I to get the coronavirus?
  • How do I know if I have or previously had the coronavirus?

Although the answers to both of those questions depend on many factors, such as age, general health status, and social contact, a more complete picture occurs if you get tested for coronavirus antibodies. Olympus Health & Performance now offers coronavirus antibody testing, which is available to the general public and can be administered by one of our nurses in your own home or business.

How Likely Am I To Get The Coronavirus?

It depends. Older people and people with chronic diseases or immune abnormalities seem to be most susceptible to the coronavirus. In addition, like most other viruses, if antibodies from previous exposure to the coronavirus are detected in your blood, you have probably developed a stronger defense to the virus within your immune system. Although we’re still learning about how the immune system responds to the coronavirus, typically once you have antibodies for a specific strain of a disease, it’s more difficult to get that disease again because your immune system is better equipped to recognize the disease and fight if it enters your body again.

On the other hand, if you are tested and we detect no coronavirus antibodies in your blood, it means you are more susceptible to getting ill from the coronavirus, and you should continue to follow all CDC and local government recommendations for minimizing your exposure to the virus.

How Do I Know If I Have Or Previously Had The Coronavirus?

Antibodies are developed by your immune system when it comes into contact with pathogens like the coronavirus. We use a COVID-19 IgG/IgM Rapid Test to detect these antibodies, which will help you know if you’ve been exposed to the coronavirus.

This new test only identifies whether you’ve developed the antibodies for the disease; it is not a test to see if you currently carry the virus or have COVID-19. Looking for COVID-19 testing to find out if you currently carry the virus? We offer that too. Visit our COVID-19 PCR Testing page to learn more. If you’ve been exposed to or are infected by the coronavirus but have not yet developed antibodies, this test may not be able to identify your exposure until more time has passed. In some cases, a new test may be needed to confirm exposure to the disease.

Do You Run A Business?

Businesses can benefit from knowing which employees are the least susceptible to new coronavirus infections. If employee safety is your top priority and you wish to identify which employees are the least likely to catch and spread the coronavirus, call (385) 645-6137 to discuss setting up employee testing for your business or contact us via the form below. Our nurses are mobile and can come to you to streamline testing for your employees.

COVID-19 Antibody Test Results Interpretation

There are four possible outcomes from your antibody testing. Here’s what you might have, and what it means:

IgM negative, IgG negative (No antibodies)
You have most likely not been exposed to the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) that causes the COVID-19 disease. Much less likely, you may be currently infected but very early in the course of the disease (less than five days). You are susceptible to the disease.
IgM positive, IgG negative
You have recently been exposed to the virus and are probably still infectious. You have not developed any long-term immunity and you should self-quarantine if you have no symptoms and, if you do have symptoms, contact your healthcare provider to see if you are eligible for further testing.
IgM positive, IgG positive
You have had the virus, and if you do not have symptoms, are in the recovery phase. You probably have immunity at least for several months. Nonetheless, you should continue to practice good hand washing and follow local government directives.
IgM negative, IgG positive
You have had the virus quite some time ago and are in the recovery phase. You probably have immunity at least for several months. Nonetheless, you should continue to practice good hand washing and follow local government directives.
