COVID-19 Vaccine FAQs

Please note that Olympus Health & Performance is no longer scheduling new COVID-19 vaccine appointments.

Olympus Health & Performance is proud to offer COVID-19 vaccines to Salt Lake City. Our expert team of nurses is dedicated to slowing the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic and is here to help answer any questions you may have about COVID-19 vaccines.

What Vaccines Are Offered By Olympus Health & Performance?

We currently offer the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, although that is subject to change based on availability. Patients 18 years of age and older may receive either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, while patients 12-17 years of age are only eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine. Both Pfizer and Moderna vaccines require a second dose administered 3-4 weeks after the first, which we’ll schedule during your first visit.

Are COVID-19 Vaccines Safe?

Yes, all vaccines FDA-approved for emergency use have been through numerous clinical trials and deemed safe and effective, even for those with preexisting medical conditions including immunocompromising or autoimmune disorders. Mild side effects are not uncommon but they are an indication that the vaccine is generating an immune response, and do not mean that the vaccines are unsafe. More severe side effects have gotten headlines in the news but are incredibly rare amongst the more than 1 billion vaccines that have been administered around the world to date.

What are Efficacy Rates?

Efficacy is not the same as effectiveness. Vaccine efficacy is the percentage reduction in disease for those that received a vaccination in a clinical trial. A 95% efficacy rate means that there were 95% fewer new cases of coronavirus with the vaccine compared to the placebo group. Also, those that did contract new cases of coronavirus after being fully vaccinated experienced more mild cases, drastically reducing hospitalization and death from the disease.

It’s important to note that efficacy rates are not comparable between the various available vaccines. The trials were conducted at different times with different groups of people, and different variants of coronavirus existed at different stages of the pandemic. The point? Each vaccine is extremely effective in preventing coronavirus, so there’s no need to compare numbers.

What Are the Efficacy Rates of COVID-19 Vaccines?

  • Pfizer – 95.0%
  • Moderna – 94.1%
  • Johnson & Johnson – 66.3%

Note: J&J is 93.1% effective in preventing coronavirus-associated hospitalizations.
